Are Desirable Citizens - So says Judge of Those Naturalized in Penn Yan: At a term of Naturalization Court yesterday, naturalization papers were awarded to John Nelson, Martin Jensen, Albert Karl Johansen, Juul Nielsen, Martin Astrup, Peterson and Carl F. F. Peterson, formerly of Denmark.
In granting citizenship, Justice Clark paid a fine compliment to the new men who, he said, in common with other residents of Yates County to whom he had granted papers were to the sort which make most desirable citizens.

Won Prizes: The Finger Lakes Canning Company have awarded prizes to the growers, who would bring into the factory, the largest yield, on a husked basis, from five pecks corn. This was done in order to stimulate interest in Minnesota Crosby Corn. Those receiving awards are as follows:
Wm. P. Finnegan, Dundee, $50, who brought in a gross weight of 57,300 pounds, which graded net, 37,277 pounds; Jul Nielsen, Penn Yan, $25. Four more persons were awarded prizes.

Nielsen - Scott: The marriage of Miss Flora Scott of Voak, and Elmer Nielsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen of Milo, took place Monday at 3 o'clock at the Benton parsonage. The bride was attended by her sister Mary and the best man Claud Everson of Clifton Springs. After a wedding trip the bride and groom will reside in Milo.

Yates Wedding Announced: Announcement has been made of the marriage April 16th, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Miss Betty Nielsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen, and John Mattison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Nageldinger, Gage.
Miss Doris Nielsen, the bride's sister, was bridesmaid. Bridegroom's attendant was James Covert, Penn Yan. Ushers were Norman Caswell, Rochester and Elmer Nielsen, Penn Yan. Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen will be at home at 7545 South Wabash Avenue, Chicago. The bridegroom is studying diesel engineering there.

Desserts to Tantalize - Tables from Many Lands Mark Church's International Banquet: Exotic decorations and tantalizing desserts will be featured at the International banquet at the Methodist Church tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
Tables will be on exhibition, 6 to 6:30 p.m. for any who wish to view them before the banquet begins. Hostess committee will conduct visitors through the dining room.
Twenty foreign nations will be represented, each with a table decorated with imported curios or other objects typical of the nation symbolized.
Hostesses dressed in national costumes, in many cases natives of the countries delineated, will preside over each table.
The same bounteous three course American dinner will be served to everyone, but the dessert will be different at each table. These will be rare foods, some of them quite unknown to the average American.
Denmark will be represented by Miss Edith Nielsen, assisted by Mrs. Carl Fox. Dessert made by Mrs. Jul Nielsen will be an elaborate pudding built upon an applesauce base and using generous amounts of whipped cream, jam and cherries.

Edith Nielsen to Wed Classmate: Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen, Pen Yan, announce the engagement of their daughter, Edith, to Airman First Class Donald J. Snyder, son of Mrs. Lina M. Snyder, 151 South Avenue.
Miss Nielsen is a graduate of Penn Yan Academy, Class of 1950, and is employed as secretary to Attorney Walter O. Vail.
Airman Snyder also graduated in 1950. At the termination of a 26-day leave at home, he will report to Camp Stoneman, California:

Rita DeStefano Wed in Double Ring Rite: Miss Rita DeStefano, Penn Yan, became the bride of George Nielsen at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
The reverent Viggo Petersen performed the double ring service.
Miss Edith Nielsen, Penn Yan, sister of the bridegroom, was bride's attendant, and John Mattison, Penn Yan, was best man.
A wedding dinner for the bridal party at Hill Top Inn followed the ceremony.
On their return from a trip to West Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen will live in Penn Yan.
The bride is employed at Baldwin's Bank. The bridegroom, a guitarist and singer of cowboy and western ballads, is on the entertainment staff of radio WGVA, Geneva.

Snyder - Nielsen: Miss Edith Nielsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen, was united in marriage to Airman First Class Donald J. Snyder, son of Mrs. Lina Snyder, Penn Yan, in a double ring ceremony at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, by reverent Viggo Petersen, December 13.
Attendants were Miss Doris Nielsen, sister of the bride, maid of honor; Mrs. George Nielsen, Penn Yan, Miss Joan High, Seneca Falls, bridesmaids. William Snyder, Penn Yan, was best man, and the ushers were Ronald Christensen, and Airman First Class Carlton Ellis, USAF, Alaska.
The bride has been a secretary in the Walter O. Vail law office. The bridegroom recently returned from Korean duty. The couple will live at Lockborne Air Base, Columbus, Ohio, for the present.

Miss Doris Nielsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen, Pre-Emption Road, broke her left leg just above the knee last Sunday afternoon while skiing with several friends in a gully on the Rosenkrans property on the Dresden - Penn Yan Road. She is in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Miss Nielsen is employed as a bookkeeper at the Paul Strong Feed Mill on Water Street in Penn Yan.

Jul Nielsen Farm - Wind-Whipped Flames Destroy Barn, Livestock and Equipment: Loss in a barn fire at the Jul Nielsen farm on Pre-Emption Road yesterday afternoon is expected to exceed several thousand dollars, according to firemen.
Lost in the blaze was an L-shaped barn, seven head of cattle, 50 chickens, a new wagon drill, hay baler, corn planter, 1000 bushels of corn, 1000 bales of hay, 200 bales of straw, a ton of fertilizer, and a milk cooler and all milk equipment.
The fire was out of control when firemen arrived and they fought to save the Nielsen home. The roof was a blaze from flying embers.
Mr. Nielsen, who suffers a heart condition, was given oxygen at the scene after he collapsed and his doctor was summoned. His son, George, reported suffered facial burns in trying to save livestock in the barn. Ned Breuer of the Penn Yan Fire Department also received a laceration of his hand.
Benton Fire Department was the first to arrive at the scene and immediately called Penn Yan, Dresden and Bellona Fire Departments under mutual aid.
Cause of the fire has not been determined. Nielsen and his son were working in a field near the barn and spotted smoke coming from the northwest corner. The barn was quickly fanned into a blazing inferno by the heavy winds.

Penn Yan Couple - 50th Anniversary Observed: Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday with a dinner party for their family in the Wendia Lodge Hall in Penn Yan.
The Nielsens were married August 26th, 1914 by reverent Lewis C. Larsen in the Larsen home.
Mr. Nielsen was born in Sindal, Denmark, and has been farming in the Penn Yan area since he came to this country in 1908. Mrs. Nielsen was born in Frederikshavn, Denmark, and came to America in 1914. Both are members of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and Mr. Nielsen is a 50-year member of the Wendia Danish Brotherhood Lodge in Penn Yan.
The couple has three sons, Elmer, Edmond and George, all of Penn Yan; four daughters, Doris of Newark, Mrs. Marion Benedict of Prattsburg, and Mrs. Betty Mattison and Mrs. Edith Snyder, both of Penn Yan, and 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Snyder is Candidate: Mrs. Edith Blondie Snyder of 286 West Lake Road has announced her candidacy for the position of town clerk for the Town of Jerusalem. Petitions are now in circulation for the Primary Election to be June 20th.
Mrs. Snyder, 34 years, is the wife of Donald J. Snyder, a lineman for the New York Telephone Company. The couple has three daughters, Gale, 13 years, Julie, 8 years, and Kathie, 7 years.
A native of Yates County and a graduate of Penn Yan Academy, class of 1950, she was formerly employed by the Investigation Department of the Unemployment Bureau for Ohio. She was also secretary in the law office of Taylor & Taylor of Penn Yan and is presently employed by Attorney Walter O. Vail.
Mrs. Snyder is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jul Nielsen of Pre-emption Road. She is a notary public, a member of the Legal Secretary's Association, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and is an assistant Brownie Troop leader.

Mrs. Agnes P. Nielsen, 82 years, Penn Yan, died Wednesday, January 7th, at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.
Friends may call at the Weldon Funeral Home Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Nielsen was a resident of Penn Yan for 62 years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the Church. She and her husband, Jul, celebrated the 61st wedding anniversary last August.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund of Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Surviving are her husband, Jul; three sons, Elmer, Edmond and George, four daughters, Mrs. Marion Benedict, Mrs. Betty Mattison, Doris Nielsen and Mrs. Edith A Snyder, all of Penn Yan; two brothers and two sisters in Denmark; and 12 grandchildren.

Jul Nielsen, 92 years, of Pre Emption Road died yesterday at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.
Friends may call at the Weldon Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Danish Brotherhood service will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetary.
Mr. Nielsen lived in the Penn Yan area for 68 years. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was a 67-year member of the Danish Brotherhood. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Surviving are three sons, Elmer, Edmond and George; four daughters, Mrs. Marion Benedict, Mrs. Betty Mattison, Doris Nielsen and Mrs. Edith Snyder; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
